How Mentoring Works
Mentoring is a learning process whereby a less-experienced protégé gets guidance and support from a more experienced person through a series of regular 1-on-1 conversations. Protégés are encouraged to:
- acknowledge where they are now (their current reality),
- think about where they want to be (by reflection),
- decide on how to get there (make informed decisions)
- take stock on their progress (after taking action).
Throughout the process, the mentor initiates exploration, facilitates learning, guides planning and supports the actions of the mentees.
